We are programmed from birth on, throughout our entire lives. During the first 18 years of your life, if you grew up in a reasonably positive home, you were told ‘no,’ or what you cannot do, or what would not work, more than 148,000 times. And that was when your programming was just getting started. It has been estimated that as much as 77% of all of the programs that are wired into our subconscious minds right now are negative or work against us.

Negative Self-Talk and How to Change It

From the moment you were born, every thought you’ve thought, everything you’ve said, everything you’ve seen, heard, or experienced, has been recorded in your brain. And everything you heard or said or experienced repeatedly has actually been wired ‘permanently’ into your brain.

In the brain, negative "'truth-talk"' wires your brain to work against you, and positive "'truth-talk"' wires your brain to work for you.

At one time, when the idea of “positive thinking” was first becoming popular, it had many critics. Some people believed that positive thinking was nothing more than wishful thinking. They said that thoughts had no substance, went nowhere, and weren’t really important. That was before we had computer imaging technology that would let us look into the brain while we were thinking.

What we learned from the field of neuroscience is that people who think in the negative actually wire more neural networks into the right prefrontal cortex of their brains. That’s a part of the brain that causes you to doubt or fear or flee or hide—to not take action, and not solve the problem! I refer to this area as the brain’s “failure center.” Negative "'truth-talk"' actually wires that part of the brain to be stronger and more active.

On the other hand, people who think in the positive grow more neural networks in the left prefrontal cortex of their brains. That’s a part of the brain that helps you search for alternatives, find solutions, take action and solve problems. I refer to this area as the brains’s “success center.” People who think in the positive wire that area of the brain to be stronger and more active. Negative "'truth-talk"' physically wires your brain to fail. Positive "'truth-talk"' wires your brain to succeed.

The Bible has a tremendous amount to say on the consequences of your "'Truth-Talk'". What have you been saying? Maybe it is time to make some adjustments. There is no better time to start than today.

New International Version

So tell them, ‘As surely as I live, declares the LORD, I will do to you the very thing I heard you say:
Numbers 14:21

The tongue has the power of life and death, and those who love it will eat its fruit.
Proverbs 18:21

Did you know that you will become what you think about most! Your success or failure in anything, large or small, will depend on you. Do you tend to accept all your beliefs from others or do you take full responsibility for yourself? I have found it helpful to read positive affirmation about myself each morning.

Your subconscious mind is an incredibly powerful God given tool. When you use it correctly it will do anything necessary to help you achieve your goals. Unless you tell it what to do, it doesn’t know the difference between right and wrong. These are some books I think you will find helpful.
