The US Department of Education, Academy of the Sciences, and the Foundation for Child Development conducted a study on early childhood development. Several interesting, scientific ideas and trends on childhood development emerged from the study.

The portion of the study I find most convincing is that regarding neuroplasticity. Neuroplasticity, or brain plasticity, is the brain's ability to reorganize neural pathways based on new experiences. Simplyput, every day we experience and learn new things. In order to incorporate this new information into our brains, the brain must reorganize the way it processes that information. Thus, as we learn things, the brain changes.

What’s the most important tool in your sales arsenal? Is it your CRM? Is it your dog-eared, much-loved copy, of “How to Win Friends and Influence People”? Or maybe the handy-dandy IPhone that allows you to hold all your contacts for your next sales appointment. While any of these might hold a place of importance, they can’t compare to the most important asset of all. And I’m so sure that I have the right answer that I challenge any of you to come up with a better answer:

It’s your mind, and more specifically your brain.

Assuming you could come up with a better answer than mine, you’d have to use your brain, which would only prove my point. Doctors and scientists studying neuroplasticity have discovered that our thoughts can change the structure and function of our brains, even into old age.

It is essential for everyone in sales to understand that the power of positive thinking has scientific creditability. These findings are so revolutionary; they’re only now reaching critical mass outside the realm of neuroscience because some stubborn scientists have resisted the findings. You might want to get a copy of “The Power of Positive Thinking” by Norman Vincent Peale.

But guess what? The brain is not akin to a machine at all. The brain, in fact, can rewire itself in a way that no computer ever could. Scientists have proven this conclusively by citing the work of maverick researchers who teach stroke victims how to use paralyzed limbs again, for example.

What does all this have to do with sales?

Remember your last sales challenge, and you know how hard it is to win the mental game. Willpower isn’t enough. But within the model of plastic brain change, you can find new insights and break bad habits with peak efficiency and skill. That is were ‘’’Self-Talk’’’ comes in.

A barrage of books, television specials, radio programs and facebook posts all announce that things aren’t the way they used to be – or even the way they were supposed to be. Everything is changing: family relationships, jobs, child rearing practices, technologies, political systems, economics, and competition. The future has come upon us so fast and furiously that we’re often left confused and unsettled. How can you equip yourself to deal with a world that is transforming before your very eyes?

Quantum change abruptly and powerfully breaks the critical links that connect anyone or anything with the past. What we are experiencing today is absolutely unprecedented in all of human recorded history. We have run into change so different from anything preceding it that it totally demolishes normal standards. It has swept us into a massive transformation that will completely reorder all we know about living in this world. It demands totally new rules for success.

I began studying quantum physics because I was curious. I became enthralled when I realized the similarities to how faith works and what Jesus taught his disciples’ about the principles of “mountain moving faith” and the spoken word. I will attempt to simplify and share with you some of what I have learned. If you are interested in studying quantum physics in detail, there are are many books available such as Parallel Universes: The Search for Other Worlds and Dancing Wu Li Masters: An Overview of the New Physics.

A lot of positive ‘’’Self-Talk’’’ can seem a bit flaky, especially if you’re the sort of person opposed to respond well to an affirmation to “look on the bright side.” But positive ‘’’Self-Talk’’’ has some interesting findings. One finding is that feeling grateful is very good for you. Time and again, studies have shown that performing simple ‘’’Self-Talk’’’ gratitude affirmations can bring a range of benefits, such as feelings of increased well-being and reduced depression. Now a brain-scanning study in NeuroImaging brings us a little closer to understanding why.

Three different studies, done by different teams of scientists proved something really extraordinary. But when a new research connected these 3 discoveries, something shocking was realized, something hiding in plain sight.Human emotion literally shapes the world around us. Not just our perception of the world, but reality itself. In the first experiment, human DNA, isolated in a sealed container, was placed near a test subject. Scientists gave the donor emotional stimulus and fascinatingly enough, the emotions affected their DNA in the other room. In the presence of negative emotions the DNA tightened. In the presence of positive emotions the coils of the DNA relaxed. The scientists concluded that “Human emotion produces effects which defy conventional laws of physics.” Here is a study that shows the emotional effect of positive and negative words.

In the next study, similar but unrelated experiment, different group of scientists extracted Leukocytes (white blood cells) from donors and placed into chambers so they could measure electrical changes. In this experiment, the donor was placed in one room and subjected to “emotional stimulation” consisting of video clips, which generated different emotions in the donor. The DNA was placed in a different room in the same building. Both the donor and his DNA were monitored and as the donor exhibited emotional peaks or valleys (measured by electrical responses), the DNA exhibited the IDENTICAL RESPONSES AT THE EXACT SAME TIME.
